Energy Publications

The GEFA Division of Energy Resources is proud to provide these energy publications and research papers which the Division has developed or sponsored.  They are organized according to the following topics:

Georgia Energy Information, Data and Analysis

The Georgia Energy Review 2005 (PDF) is an overview of energy production, consumption, prices and markets in Georgia.  It provides useful comparisons between Georgia and other states, and examines energy trends over the past twenty years.

The Georgia Energy Review 2005 Fact Sheet (PDF) provides a brief overview of the Georgia Energy Review 2005.

The Assessment of Energy Efficiency Potential in Georgia (PDF) is a comprehensive analysis of the technical, economic, and achievable energy efficiency potential in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors of Georgia.  GEFA commissioned the nationally renowned power-sector consulting firm ICF Consulting to conduct this research. In the assessment, ICF Consulting documents substantial, cost effective energy efficiency potential for Georgia.  In addition, ICF Consulting examines the potential positive environmental and macro-economic impacts of achieving this energy efficiency potential.

The Strategies for Capturing Georgia's Energy Efficiency Potential (PDF) is a companion study to the Assessment of Energy Efficiency Potential in Georgia (see above).  This study presents a comprehensive overview of public policies designed to support greater energy efficiency, examines the existing energy efficiency public policy structure in Georgia and proposes a number of practical, "best practice" energy efficiency programs to improve Georgia's economy by making Georgia's homes and businesses more energy efficient.

An Analysis of Average Electricity Rates and Bills in Georgia and the United States (PDF) compares Georgia’s average residential electricity rates and bills to the nation’s averages. It examines why Georgia, with an average residential electricity rate below the national average, has a relatively high average electricity bill.

Energy and State Of Georgia Facilities

Greening Georgia Facilities (PDF) is an analysis of the impact of a LEED® -based green building policy that would affect state funded, owned, or leased buildings.  The report combines an overview of green building policies in other states, an assessment of current building practices by the State of Georgia, input from state facilities personnel and recommendations for how best to proceed to encourage green building in State of Georgia facilities.  The report also provides several strategies that Georgia can pursue to maintain or increase the adoption of green building practices.

The State Facilities Energy Council’s Energy Savings Tip Sheet provides facility managers with a menu of no-cost / low-cost strategies for saving energy and saving money.

In February 2005, Governor Sonny Perdue issued an Executive Order (PDF) creating the State Facilities Energy Council.

The Georgia Natural Gas Program Fact Sheet (PDF) describes the State of Georgia's coordinated natural gas procurement program.

The Electric Rate Optimization Fact Sheet (PDF) provides an overview of the State of Georgia's efforts to save money by getting its largest electrical accounts on the best rates.

The State of Georgia Energy Tracking System Fact Sheet (PDF) desrcibes the State's effort to track energy usage in all State buildings.

Energy and Energy Efficiency Resources for Homeowners, Builders & Educators

A Builder’s Guide to Energy Efficient Homes in Georgia (PDF) is a quick reference guide which shows the key elements of energy efficient construction.  The energy features explained in the Builder’s Guide save money, improve indoor air quality, enhance comfort, prevent moisture problems, and increase the long term durability of the building.

Home Energy Projects (PDF) is an energy efficiency and conservation guide for homeowners.  It includes a Home Energy Project Checklist - a quick method for selecting which measures to install.  A basic explanation of some of the theory of energy conservation and energy conservation practices appears throughout the book.  Twenty-five efficiency and conservation measures are described in detail.  Options for replacing windows, doors, heating and cooling systems, and fireplaces are addressed.  Guidance for discussion with contractors, scheduling, tools, and safety measures for doing the job right is also included.

Ways to Save Energy In and Around the Home (PDF) is a series of fact sheets, each of which focuses on a different measure to save energy at home. Topics include: Choosing Heating and Cooling Equipment, Ductwork Questions and Answers, Indoor Air Quality, Air Conditioner Tips, Airsealing, Whole House Fans, Energy Efficient Appliances, Insulation Basics, Radiant Barriers and Energy Efficient Lighting.

Teach with Energy is available for classroom teachers. Tailored for either grades K - 3 or 4 - 6, this publications offers fundamental energy, electricity and science lessons. (This publication is not available electronically. To obtain a copy, please call David Attaway at 404-584-1089).

The Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday Fact Sheet (PDF) provides consumers a succinct overview on the valuable opportunity to save money on purchases of energy efficient appliances and lighting.
