The Georgia Weatherization Assistance Program’s mission is to reduce state and national consumption of energy while providing a safe, improved environment and enhanced quality of life for Georgia’s income eligible households.
- The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) was established in 1976 in response to the nation’s energy crisis.
- The WAP is the primary energy conservation organization for low-income individuals, which provides free energy conservation measures to income eligible households.
- Since its inception, over 5.7 million homes have been weatherized nationwide.
- The WAP is administered according to Department of Energy (DOE) guidelines.
- The WAP operates in all of Georgia’s 159 counties.
